Cowichan Pipes & Drums
14 July 2011musicpipers
We are very lucky to have the Cowichan Pipes & Drums playing in this year’s festival.
Participating in the Grande Parade which starts at 11pm on Saturday July 16th, the band will also be the star act in the military tattoo on the same day.
Electric guitar and electric bagpipes have also been known to feature in the band’s performances!
A number of our members are Scots or have Scottish ancestory.
Our motto is Ceol As An Tir Blath, which is Gaelic for Music from the Warm Land and our tartan is Drummond of Perth.
Behind the scenes
A huge amount of dedication and practice is required to produce the spine-tingling performances that the Cowichan Pipes & Drums deliver.
You can get a taste of this in the video clip below, which shows the band in one of their many practice sessions.
If that looks like fun then why not give it a go? The Pipes & Drums can be found practicing most Thursday evenings at the Seniors Hall on Government Road and they are always looking for new members.
So if learning to play the bagpipes, side drum, tenor drum or base drum interests you then give it a go! You can contact the band manager Frank Nichol by calling (250) 748 1650.
